    AGRICULTURE REPORTER

    SUMMARY 

    Responsible for collecting and analyzing facts procured through interview, investigation, research or observation and producing resulting reports in Spanish and English about newsworthy topics/events. Reports content to meet organizational goals and objectives.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    - Reports on assigned topics for readers of WATTAgNet.com, Industria Avícola and other WATT Agribusiness titles
    - Maintains Spanish language pages on WATTAgNet.com.
    - Copyedits Industria Avícola monthly
    - Produces weekly Spanish-language newsletter
    - Works with the Digital Content Director and Industria Avícola Editor in Chief to assess the news strategy and ensure it meets the required results
    - Uncovers and develops content areas/topics that need to be covered to better serve WATT Global Media’s Spanish-language web audience
    - Develops content for WATTAgNet.com and other WATT Agribusiness titles in cooperation with brand editors.
    - Investigates and reports on breaking news developments
    - Employs journalistic standards and ethics (http://www.spj.org/) in all aspects of job
    - Reports according to prescribed editorial style and format standards (https://www.apstylebook.com/ and WATT Style Guide); reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation
    - Takes photographs and shoots video to illustrate content
    - Attends conventions, expositions, press events and visits manufacturers, often in Latin America, to gather newsworthy information and represent WATT Global Media; often produces content directly from event
    - Works on special projects and on cross-functional teams
    - Works with external consultants

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

    QUALIFICATIONS
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or equivalent experience, with a minimum of three years of related work experience, and fluency in both written and spoken Spanish and English.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
    - Experience working as a Spanish-language reporter in a real-time news environment
    - Strong written and verbal communication skills
    - Fluency in both written and spoken Spanish
    - Background and interest in large-scale agriculture/agribusiness
    - Ability to produce content while traveling and covering events
    - Proficiency in collaborative technology, such as Trello, network drives, Skype, GotoMeeting
    - Proficiency in social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn
    - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
    - Knowledge of basic SEO concepts
    - Knowledge of content management system, such as Ektron or ePublishing

    SENIOR WEB EDITOR  

    SUMMARY
    The Senior Web Editor, working on the Unified Copy Desk, will collect, analyze and disseminate reports on content and reader behavior based on analytics. The Senior Web Editor will edit www.WATTAgNet.com and www.PetfoodIndustry.com, including updating these sites in a timely manner. This position manages projects and teams as assigned. There are also a variety of editing duties on our magazines and multimedia platforms, such as videos and webinars.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    - Collects, analyzes and disseminates reports on content and reader behavior based on Google Analytics
    - Makes decisions based on statistical analysis to continually improve engagement
    - Web editor for www.WATTAgNet.com and www.PetfoodIndustry.com; responsible for the timely update of and response to errors on these sites
    - Manages projects and teams as assigned
    - Backup webinar producer
    - Backup video producer
    - Proof reads Poultry International
    - Writing news and other items as required
    - Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax
    - Verify facts, dates and statistics, using standard reference sources
    - Works on special projects and in cross-functional teams as assigned
    - Works with external consultants as assigned
    - Attends conventions, expositions, press events and visits manufacturers to gather newsworthy information and represent WATT as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media, Communications, English or equivalent experience. Five years of experience in a similar position.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
    - Understanding of Web analytics and experience in improving content based on analysis of these statistics
    - Proficiency in Google Analytics; Google Analytics certified
    - Experience managing projects and teams and proven record of achieving results within these projects and teams
    - Experience working as an editor with Web responsibilities
    - Knowledge of basic SEO language and best practices and ability to apply those best practices
    - Ability to report and write accurately and efficiently with minimal need for editing
    - Proficiency in collaborative technology, such as Basecamp, Trello, network drives, Skype, GotoMeeting/GotoWebinar
    - Proficiency in social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in, Youtube
    - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
    - Knowledge of content management system, such as ePublishing, Wordpress and others.
    - Background in agribusiness
    - Ability to train and work collaboratively with others and give feedback
    - Critical thinking — Use of logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
    - Quality control analysis — Oversight of products and processes to evaluate quality or performance
    - Time management — Able to achieve results on schedule in a self-directed environment

    Hours/Location: Flexible – Hours are scheduled around student’s classes, and location is dependent on where student resides. Training may be requested in Rockford office, if student’s location permits.     WRITING
    - Writing products, news and other assigned items
    - Coordinating with editors on projects
    EDITING
    - Self editing written content to meet WATT Global Media and AP style standards
    - Editing, proofreading material written by colleagues
    WEB EDITING
    - Adding content (news, products, videos, etc.) to company websites using content management system
    - Assisting in organization, formatting of content in content management system

    SKILLS NEEDED

    - Competency in Microsoft Office Suite
    - Competency in using a computer
    - Working knowledge of news writing, editing principles
    - Working knowledge of SEO principles related to writing
    - Working knowledge of content management systems (i.e. WordPress, Ektron, etc.)
    - Background in agriculture a plus
    - Ability to work collaboratively
    - Ability to self-start and self-direct
    - Willingness to learn and assist where needed
