    SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

    Department: Accounting
    Reports To: Director of Acctg. & Operations
    FLSA Status: Exempt

    SUMMARY
    This position is responsible for accounting and finance functions including budget development, accounts payable, expense reporting and reconciliations, invoice reconciliations, financial analysis, financial statement preparation and daily and month end cash report.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Accounts Payable
    - Performs all accounts payable functions
    - Invoice Register- research source of invoice to receive authorization for payment and set up approval process;
    - Prepare payables and post to financial system (Netsuite);
    - Prepare daily and month end Cash Report
    - Update spreadsheets including, but not limited to, travel and payables due;
    - Weekly cash management;
    - Check runs
    - 3rd Party Accounting Services

    General Accounting
    - Prepare and post journal entries;
    - Prepare and analyze account reconciliations;
    - Ensures timely and accurate posting, balancing and reconciliation of the general ledger;
    - Performs accounting functions for UK/Netherlands Offices including changing currency exchange rates to US Dollars and posting to general ledger;
    - Correspond with assigned departments to ensure proper accounting for, purchases, vendor payment, and accruals;
    - Primary contact with international 3rd Party Accounting Services.


    Reporting and Analysis
    - Prepare reports detailing monthly expenses by assigned cost centers;
    - Preparation of monthly management report and accompanying schedules, worksheets, and narratives;

    Audits and Examinations
    - Assist with annual external audit;
    - Complete requested materials;
    - Assist in preparing assigned schedules for the annual audit;
    - Works directly with external auditors.

    Banking/Cash
    - Coordinate and resolve various issues with bank such as cleared check differences; bank fee anomalies, targeted balance calculations and enhancements to on-line services.
    - Take deposit to bank when required;
    - Reconcile daily deposit batches between the bank and financial system (Netsuite)

    Budgeting and Forecasting
    - Analyze assigned cost center, including comparisons to forecasted and trended results;
    - Assist in Budget and Forecast by assigned cost center

    Payroll
    - Process bi-monthly Payroll;
    - Serves as liaison with 3rd Party vendor;
    - Analyzes time usage by all employees on each publication and applies payroll , taxes and benefits accordingly;
    - Analyzes and post to general ledger paid-time-off liability;
    - Update employee files, when applicable;
    - 401(k) administration (on-boarding, changes, funding);
    - Calculate and process Sales Commission on quarterly basis.

    Continuous Improvement
    - Document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibilities;

    Accounts Receivable (As Required)
    - Cross-trained in all accounts receivable functions
    - Invoicing, Cash Receipts, Collections, Back-up to mail room.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    - Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Finance with five to ten years experience. CPA a plus, but not required
    - Strong understanding of accounting theory
    - Highly detail oriented and organized in work
    - Ability to meet assigned deadlines
    - Excellent communication an interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
    - Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives
    - Proficiency in understanding and use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products and automated accounting systems required.
    - Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and consultants to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.

    WRITING
    - Writing products, news and other assigned items
    - Coordinating with editors on projects
    EDITING
    - Self editing written content to meet WATT Global Media and AP style standards
    - Editing, proofreading material written by colleagues
    WEB EDITING
    - Adding content (news, products, videos, etc.) to company websites using content management system
    - Assisting in organization, formatting of content in content management system

    SKILLS NEEDED

    - Competency in Microsoft Office Suite
    - Competency in using a computer
    - Working knowledge of news writing, editing principles
    - Working knowledge of SEO principles related to writing
    - Working knowledge of content management systems (i.e. WordPress, Ektron, etc.)
    - Background in agriculture a plus
    - Ability to work collaboratively
    - Ability to self-start and self-direct
    - Willingness to learn and assist where needed
